If you’re hiring a copywriter on Fiverr, you’re likely looking for someone with a five-star review rating, a decent gig description, and, most importantly, the right price. However, if you’re only a buyer on Fiverr, not a seller, you should know a few things before hiring a writer to craft your content.
Get Real About Pricing
It makes sense; you’re on a budget, so you pick one of the writers on the lower end. But you’re disappointed when they deliver you sludge riddled with typos, grammatical errors, or reads like AI wrote it. Or worse, it’s plagiarized.
Understand that Fiverr takes a healthy percentage of the gig fee from each order. That means your writer is getting paid less than you think.
If you pay budget bottom prices, expect to receive bottom-level copy.
Unless you…
Aim to Discover New Talent
There’s an exception to when the price vs. quality is proportional. New sellers to Fiverr need a certain number of orders to progress to the next seller level. If you’re hiring a copywriter on Fiverr, look for someone who may not have many orders yet but has five-star reviews for the ones they’ve completed.
Isn’t it taking a risk?
Yes and no. If a Fiverr writer wants to get to the next seller level, they’ll focus on delivering quality content and copy. If you can hire them when they’re at this critical point, you often get more than you should for the price you’re paying.
Tip: Don’t grumble when they raise their prices after they’ve hit the next level. Do ask if they’ll offer a loyalty discount.
Fiverr is Filler for Most Professionals
For those of us (yes, I am on Fiverr) who maintain active gigs on Fiverr, we typically do it when things are slow. When our regular business picks up, we focus on providing the best quality work for our regular freelance clients.
Are you asking: What, my business isn’t good enough?
Since we’re having a real conversation here…to compete on Fiverr, I am probably undercutting my industry-standard prices to get business when I need some projects to fill in gaps in my schedule.
And when things are rocking and rolling, I either put my vacation status up (after notifying my regular Fiverr clients that I’ll be away for X amount of time), or I raise my prices significantly.
There are plenty of writers outside of North America who are exclusive to Fiverr and always available. Many professional writers won’t touch Fiverr with a ten-foot pole. Why? Because the value they bring to a client’s table isn’t recognized.
Don’t Expect the Moon
Professional writers on Fiverr will spend much less time on your project than they do for non-Fiverr/non-third-party clients. This is often reflected in their gig delivery times.
I have longer delivery times, so I can immediately jump on non-Fiverr projects when they come up. Your project will get scooted to the back burner unless we’re working on a custom quote where I’m charging my regular rates.
Tip: If you haggle with me on the pricing of my gig in the Fiverr setting, I’ll walk away from the potential order in a heartbeat. However, never be afraid to negotiate when asking for a custom order for a service that is not offered on a standard gig.
Give Thought to Those Requirements
Hiring a copywriter on Fiverr means that you likely aren’t having an initial kick-off conference. So, pay attention to what the gig requirements are asking. If you don’t provide specific instructions, your copywriter might miss the mark or need to keep reaching out to you for clarification on the project.
Here are a few parting words: Fiverr is great for one-off projects. However, developing a relationship with a professional copywriter will be worth more in the long run than the money you’re saving by going through a third-party site.
